What are pomegranates good for?

Researchers report that they are rich in antioxidants that can keep bad LDL cholesterol from oxidizing (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, May 2000). This degradation of LDL seems to be an initial step in the development of atherosclerosis. In addition, pomegranate juice, like aspirin, can help keep blood platelets from clumping together to form unwanted clots. [SOURCE]

Pomegranate Ice Cream Recipe

3 cups of whipping cream
1 cup of milk
1/2 cup of sugar
1 vanilla bean, split
4 large egg yolks
2 pomegranate

In a saucepan, heat the cream, milk, sugar and vanilla bean until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is hot but not boiling.

Whisk egg yolks in a bow and gradually add 1 cup of the cream mixture. When smooth, add it all back into the pan.

Whisk constantly over low heat until it thickens slightly and coats the spoon, about five minutes. Don’t let it boil.

Remove the pan from the heat.

Remove the seeds from the pomegranate and extract the juice with a mortar and pestle.

Take the vanilla bean out of the pan and add the fruit juice. Put in the refrigerator for an hour until cool.

Put everything ice cream maker and follow manufacturer’s directions.

Ice Cream Fondue

Spoon out 1-inch diameter scoops of your favorite flavors; roll in graham cracker, Oreo, or gingersnap crumbs. Arrange on a baking sheet in a single layer; freeze until hard. Warm up some good-quality chocolate and caramel sauces. Pour sauces into small ramekins, allowing 2 for each guest. Serve ice cream balls for dipping on a platter; spear each with a large toothpick to make things easier.

Peppermint Pattie Ice Cream

1 cup half-and-half

1 cup heavy cream

4 ounces Egg Beaters or other egg substitute

2 tablespoons sugar

Dash salt

3 (1.5-ounce) chocolate-covered peppermint patties

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

6 hard peppermint candies, crushed (optional)

Combine half-and-half, cream, Egg Beaters, sugar and salt in a blender or food processor. Blend to combine.

Cut peppermint patties into 1/2-inch chunks, add to blender with vanilla and process on high until smooth. Cover and refrigerate until ready to freeze. Blend for a few seconds before pouring into the ice cream maker.

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for freezing.

(Tip: Before unwrapping hard peppermint candies, hit each piece with a rolling pin or mallet to crush into small pieces. Do this at the last minute, because candies will absorb moisture from the air and stick together. Add the candy pieces to the mixture before you put it into the freezer, or wait until the ice cream is partially frozen and then add the candy.)

I Had a Ball Making Ice Cream with the Play and Freeze!

As a child, one of the best parts of my birthday was that my grandpa would make me delicious home-made ice cream in an ancient ice cream freezer.
